The Egyptian elections are well under way and the early results show that the Muslim Brotherhood is on its way into the halls of power. Several months back, the Obama Administration and Hillary Clinton jumped aboard the Arab Spring uprising, as though it was designed to herald in a new age of freedom for the people of the Mubarak/Ghadaffi-oppressed Middle East. Remember Hillary’s joke, “We came, we saw, he died”? She made the jocular comment as an aside, shortly following the beating, sodomization and murder of Muammar Ghadaffi, who had long been cast by the likes of Obama, Clinton and John McCain as representing everything evil about the Middle East.
What must she think now, as the women of Egypt cast their votes to bring the caliphate and the sharia back to prominence and power, by and through the re-born Muslim Brotherhood?
It’s a question worth contemplation, as I read Andrew Bostom’s latest essay.
Andy presents excerpts from a book originally written by Robert Urie Jacob in 1907, entitled “A Trip to the Orient – The Story of a Mediterranean Cruise”. How nice. But you must also look at the illustrations and photos from that vacation (see one above), a couple of which Andy re-published for our benefit. They are images which should send revulsion through the very hearts of American women like Mrs Clinton. Yet, I really wonder, after all of her insurrectional cheerleading and seeming attachment to the ideas of the Muslim World, what could she and her leftist female associates really be thinking as the women of Egypt now cast their votes to once again throw themselves into the 7th Century?
