Obamacare Brouhaha In Maine: Gov LePage Calls The IRS “New Gestapo” – Dem Chairman Ben Grant Demands Apology

The Internal Revenue Service is a federal law enforcement agency with unlimited powers to seize your property and assets if you don’t pay your taxes.  The IRS can empty your bank account, break into your home and take your belongings.  It can prosecute you and send you to prison.

The Obama administration is reported to be hiring about 10,000 new IRS agents to enforce the Obamacare Individual Mandate (a nice sounding Orwellian term), which says that everyone buys health insurance or pays a penalty tax.  If you fail to pay your tax, guess what.  You’ve got a problem with the IRS.

Following Supreme Court Chief Justic John Roberts’ capitulation to the American communist revolution in finding Obamacare to be Constitutional (it’s not), Maine Governor Paul LePage spoke during his weekly radio address on what the IRS is about to do to us.  Journalist Steve Mistler (who obviously doesn’t like the Gov’s remarks) reported it in the Morning Sentinel thusly:

Gov. Paul LePage used his weekly radio address to blast President Obama’s health care law and described the Internal Revenue Service as the “new Gestapo.”

The IRS description was a reference to a provision in the Affordable Care Act that requires Americans not insured by their employers or Medicaid to buy health insurance or pay an annual penalty when filing their tax returns. The provision, known more broadly as the individual mandate, was the subject of a multi-state lawsuit, but was recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

LePage said the court decision has “made America less free.”

And he’s absolutely correct.  This decision opens the door for the government to lawfully force us to purchase whatever it deems we should purchase – or pay the penalty of money or going to prison.  But, let’s go on with the report, shall we?

“We the people have been told there is no choice,” he said. “You must buy health insurance or pay the new Gestapo — the IRS.”

Now, given the imense powers granted the IRS, which includes the authority to take your life in certain circumstances, nothing LePage said to that point gives me any heartburn.  But Maine’s Democratic Party  Chairman Ben Grant didn’t like the Gov’s choice of words:

Maine Democratic Party Chairman Ben Grant, responding to LePage’s remarks, said, “We’ve come to expect a bunch of nonsense from Gov. LePage, but this is a step too far. There appears now to be no limit to the extreme language he will use to misinform, degrade and insult people. Somebody needs to explain to him that he’s the governor of a state, and not a talk radio host. I demand a full apology on behalf of all those who suffered at the hands of the real Gestapo.”

So, Mr. Grant now presumes to advocate for the Gestapo victims of WWII.  He wants LePage to apologize and shut up.  Speaking freely and candidly is now nonsense, extreme, insulting and degrading – to whom?  My guess is that he’s alluding to President Obama, of whom any criticism must always be labeled as racist in its basis, unjustified and irrational.  Perhaps Governor LePage needs to be detained and re-educated?  I don’t know.  It’s just a question.

“There is nothing that degrades politics more than purported leaders who so cavalierly invoke the worst in human history when they can’t get their way in legitimate, modern policy disagreements,” Grant said.

Remember this comparison between George Bush and Hitler by Democrat Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison?  Ah, me.  Let’s go on, shall we?

The Gestapo were Nazi Germany’s official secret police under Adolf Hitler, who imprisoned and murdered thousands of people without cause.

Now Mr. Mistler’s true colors, or lack of understanding of history, show clearly.  The actions of the Gestapo had not only a just cause (for the Nazis), but a specific purpose – to keep the populace of Germany too frightened to question or resist Hitler’s ever more repressive policies, so that Der Fuhrer could implement his ultimate program of annihilating the world’s Jews without having to waste his time defending his intentions in public debate forums.

Fear the IRS, ladies and gentlemen.  Fear your federal government.  Fear your Congress.  Fear the Supreme Court.  It’s a new world.  This is Hope and Change.  Governor LePage is dead on the target.

Mr. Grant is trying to lull you into a false sense of security that everything is okay and tell you that men like LePage are not only out of line, but irresponsible and irrational.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

With thanks to Drudge for the link.
