The Sands Hotel is long gone. Basie and Sinatra are also gone, but the music lives on. In 1975, when I was the director of instrumental music at Pasadena High School in Southern California, we brought Count Basie and his band into the Gladys Edwards Auditorium for a wonderful concert. It was a great evening of music by one of the great jazz/swing bands in history. Basie’s group played with an incredibly tight sound, unmatched in its intensity and precision by any other band.
Here’s the closer to a great Las Vegas concert – My Kind Of Town. Chicago, of course.
